Commemorate a powerful moment in history with the Hornby A4 Class 4466 ‘Sir Ralph Wedgwood’, presented in black wartime livery as part of the Victory Over Europe 80th Anniversary Collection. This 1:76 scale OO gauge model captures a rare and striking appearance of one of Sir Nigel Gresley’s most iconic locomotives during WWII.

Originally named ‘Herring Gull’, this engine took on the name ‘Sir Ralph Wedgwood’ after the original bearer, No. 4469, was destroyed during the bombing of York station in 1942. Featuring fine detailing, a flickering firebox, and DCC Ready 21-pin socket, this locomotive is both a stunning display piece and layout-ready for digital upgrades.

Historical Note:

  • Built: January 1938 at Darlington Works

  • Wartime renaming: Took name ‘Sir Ralph Wedgwood’ in January 1944

  • Wartime livery: Painted plain black as part of austerity measures

  • Withdrawn: September 1965 (as BR green No. 60006)
