Step back into Britain's industrial railway heritage with the Hornby R3869 Dowlais Ironworks Peckett W4 Class 0-4-0ST 'Lady Cornelia' No. 33 Steam Locomotive. Beautifully reproduced in OO Gauge (1:76 scale), this charming industrial saddle tank locomotive captures the character and engineering of the steam engines that powered Britain's ironworks and steelworks during the early 20th century.
Featuring authentic period detailing, a compact 0-4-0 wheel arrangement and a 4-pin DCC-ready socket, this delightful model is an excellent addition to industrial railway layouts, heritage railway collections and historical model railway scenes.
A Fascinating Piece of British Industrial Railway History
The original Peckett W4 locomotive, Works No. 834, was built in 1900 by Peckett & Sons for the Dowlais Ironworks in South Wales.
The Dowlais Ironworks had been sold to industrialist Arthur Keen the previous year, marking a new chapter in the history of this important Welsh iron and steel producer.
Carrying the Dowlais running number 33 and the name 'Lady Cornelia', the locomotive operated across the extensive private railway network associated with the ironworks.
Unlike the nearby Cyfarthfa Ironworks, Dowlais had made an early transition from traditional iron production to steel manufacturing. This strategic change helped the works remain operational into the late 1930s.
Small but powerful, industrial locomotives such as 'Lady Cornelia' were essential for moving wagons, raw materials and finished products throughout Britain's busy industrial complexes.
Authentic Industrial Steam Locomotive Detail
The Hornby R3869 faithfully recreates the distinctive appearance of the Peckett W4 saddle tank locomotive, with its compact proportions and traditional industrial design.
Its 0-4-0 wheel arrangement makes it particularly suitable for small industrial layouts, sidings and shunting operations where larger locomotives would be impractical.
Designed for operation on OO Gauge model railways, the locomotive is also suitable for Radius 1 curves, providing greater flexibility for compact layouts.
A factory-installed 4-pin DCC-ready socket allows conversion to digital command control using a compatible decoder, making the model suitable for traditional analogue operation or future DCC upgrades.
