With AVESCO aligned to Network Ten and the ARDC contracted to the Seven Network, Bathurst City Council negotiated a separate event two weeks after the AMP Bathurst 1000, resulting in a unique chapter in Australian motorsport history.

Representing Gibson Motorsport, the #45 Holden VS Commodore qualified 15th on the grid for the Great Race.

Over nearly six and a half hours of intense competition, Hossack and Ellery drove a consistent and disciplined race, finishing an impressive 6th overall and completing 154 of 161 laps.

The race was won by Larry Perkins and Russell Ingall in a Holden VS Commodore, with Holden dominating the event — securing 12 of the top 15 finishing positions.
