History
Built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry, this locomotive entered British Rail service in 1965 as D6991, initially allocated to Cardiff Canton. In March 1974 it was renumbered 37291, before being rebuilt as a Class 37/4 in 1985 and renumbered 37419.
After moving to Scotland and joining the Provincial General Pool at Inverness in 1989, the locomotive was later allocated to Thornaby within the Railfreight Construction sector. Following several sector changes and transfers, it eventually passed through EWS before joining Direct Rail Services in 2011.
Since 2019, it has carried InterCity mainline livery and the name “Carl Haviland (1954–2012)”. Today, the locomotive is stored serviceable at Barrow Hill, forming part of the Harry Needle Railroad Company hire fleet.
